Dangers of Electromagnetic Radiation

Dangers of Electromagnetic Radiation

5G technology uses the bandwidth of high-frequency millimeter waves (MMWs) between 30GHz and 300GHz, along with some lower and middle-range frequencies. These high-frequency MMWs travel a short distance and cannot easily penetrate walls. Furthermore, these waves are absorbed by rain and plants, causing signal interference.

That being said, the new 5G infrastructure would have to include a larger number of smaller cell towers that are much closer together. This means that wireless antennas would have to be put on almost every lamppost or building in the immediate area.

To put things into perspective, let's look at the number of wireless antennas. There were 308,000 wireless antennas on cell towers and buildings in 2015, which is more than double the number of antennas found in 2002.

As we've already said, 5G infrastructure would need a lot more antennas that are smaller and closer together. Each antenna would send out bursts of radio frequency radiation (RFR). Although the levels of radiation would be lower than in 4G, it would be much more difficult to avoid it because these antennas could be everywhere.

In 2011, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer classified RFR as a possible 2B carcinogen and said that using mobile phones could cause certain types of brain tumors. Several studies have linked low-level RFR exposure to a number of health problems, such as:

• Single and double-strand DNA breaks (which could lead to cancer)

• Oxidative stress (which could lead to tissue deterioration and premature aging)

• Cell metabolism disruption

• Increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier

• Melatonin reduction (leading to insomnia and increasing cancer risks)

• Brain glucose metabolism disruption

• Stress protein production (leading to myriad diseases)

For comparison, 5G technology uses high-frequency MMWs bands that emit the same amount of radiation as airport scanners. The long-term effects of this radiation on public health haven't been fully tested yet.

Early 5G adoption would result in more signals carrying more energy through the high-frequency spectrum, with more transmitters located closer to people's homes. As a result, we have a lot of radio frequency radiation (RFR) around us.

A potential threat to human and environmental health is about to emerge.

In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Dr. Yael Stein of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem wrote about the negative effects of MMWs on human skin. The fact that more than 90% of microwave radiation is absorbed by the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin is quite disturbing. Simply put, human skin would act as a microwave radiation absorber.

Furthermore, the upper skin layers act as helical antennas (antennas that respond to electromagnetic fields), making our bodies far more conductive to this radiation. We don't know what these facts mean yet, especially for babies, pregnant women, and the elderly, who are among the most vulnerable people in society.
